CREDIT UNION ORGANIZATIONS AROUND THE WORLD

There are alternatives to banks. Credit Unions, financial co-operatives, are democratic organizations that serve its members. They do not pay huge bonuses. Profits stay within the community. When banks were creating a world-wide economic crisis, credit unions remained safe. It is a huge movement all over the world. At the end of 2008:
* Credit Unions existed in 97 countries * Some 177 million people are credit union members * Assets totaled US$1.19 trillion at the end of 2008.
The UN has declared 2012 the International Year of the Co-operative.
Here is a list of trade organizations that serve credit unions in their individual organizations. Check with them to find a credit union to serve your needs.
It is alphabetical by country. In come cases we could not find complete address information. Some do not have websites, but we have tried to present enough information for contact.

Dublin: Irish Credit Unions Look for New Laws to Help Delinquency

The Celtic Tiger, which once roared is now whimpering along with the rest of the world economy, and credit unions are reporting that increased delinquency is causing almost 25 percent of the country’s 403 credit unions to operating at a loss.
According to local news sources, the Irish League of Credit Unions is supporting a lobbying effort to encourage the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform to grant credit unions the right to attach wages at the source for debts owed.
