A down-under merger, a new European credit union website and a chance for young credit union managers to come together in Barcelona this July.

The resulting credit union will become the biggest in Victoria. Mergers between credit unions is becoming a trend in several countries such as Australia and Canada.
Manchester UK— European Credit Unions Launch Website The European Network of Credit Unions has launched a new website to promote credit unions with the European Union. The Association of British Credit Unions Limited is one of the five founding trade association members of the Network which is working with the support of the World Council of Credit Unions to ensure appropriate and proportionate regulations for credit unions across Europe. The Network acts as an information exchange and enables credit union associations in Europe to speak with one voice as is carries out its work to: 1. Educate EU policymakers on what a credit union is, how it is structured and what services it provides 2. Raise awareness of the social role credit unions play, both in European countries and worldwide 3. Formulate positions on EU policies identified as highly important to the credit union movement 4. Advocate these positions vis-à-vis EU decision-makers 5. Engage in an open dialogue with policymakers and other stakeholders The site also provides an overview of the credit union movement in Europe and worldwide and contains details of the work that the Network is doing to ensure the benefit of credit unions is recognised by European policy makers. Stories from credit union members in Glasgow and London are used on the site to illustrate the benefits to individuals of credit union services. The other founding members of the group represent credit unions in Ireland, Macedonia, Poland and Romania.
Madison WI: Credit Unions Should Nominate Young Managers for WYCUP for Barcelona Conference An effective way to develop young credit union managers is to have them participate in the WOCCU WYCUP program this July. WOCCU is committed to ensuring future sustainability of the international CU system by recognizing and promoting its next generation of leaders. The WYCUP Scholarship Program seeks individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of their own CUs, regional or national CU systems and have demonstrated the potential to employ their unique talents at the international level. Those wishing to apply to the program must submit their completed nomination materials to WOCCU headquarters no later than June 15. To be eligible for the scholarship, nominees must: 1) be sponsored by their credit union or CU organization to attend the WOCCU 2009 Conference in Barcelona, Spain, July 26-29 2) be 35 years of age or younger on January 1, 2009 3) submit a completed nomination form with all necessary supporting materials to WOCCU by June 15 The WYCUP scholarship, which consists of an all-expenses-paid trip to the 2010 World Credit Union Conference, will be awarded to five recipients at the 2009 conference in Barcelona. All WYCUP nominees, regardless of award status, will be formally recognized in Barcelona and invited to take part in events organized specifically for participants under age 35, including a networking session. Conference registrants age 35 and under also qualify for a discounted registration fee regardless of whether or not they compete for the scholarship.
