Dublin: Irish Credit Unions Look for New Laws to Help Delinquency

The Celtic Tiger, which once roared is now whimpering along with the rest of the world economy, and credit unions are reporting that increased delinquency is causing almost 25 percent of the country’s 403 credit unions to operating at a loss. According to local news sources, the Irish League of Credit Unions is supporting a lobbying effort to encourage the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform to grant credit unions the right to attach wages at the source for debts owed.
